Getting ready to sell your home can take a lot of preparation. The goal is to appeal to as many potential buyers as possible, which means it’s important to make sure every inch of your home is in tip-top shape.
Do any rooms need a new coat of paint? Are there dirty carpets that need cleaned? Is there a ton of clutter taking up space? With all the items on your home-selling checklist, it can be easy to overlook the importance of a clean bathroom. But, it’s one of the major red flags that can deter buyers looking to buy a new home.
Check out this information to learn more about preparing your home’s bathrooms to appeal to potential buyers.
Repair any Drips
Does your bathroom sink have a dripping faucet you’ve been ignoring for several months? If so, you probably don’t notice it anymore—but buyers definitely will. Get a plumber on the scene to address the problem before letting buyers in your home. That’s one less thing that they would have to worry about fixing, which means a higher chance they’d be willing to make an offer.
Assess the Water Pressure
Water pressure is key when buyers are evaluating a home, especially in the bathroom. Make sure the pressure is satisfactory by paying attention to the faucet and shower and also by flushing the toilet. If a plumber is already there fixing any drips, have them make sure the water pressure is up to par for a new owner.
Ditch the Rugs
Bathroom rugs are a practical everyday item to have in your bathroom, but buyers don’t want to see them. Remove any rugs from around the shower, sink, and especially toilet. Doing so will make the room appear a bit larger, and definitely cleaner, which all buyers will appreciate.
Don’t Display Personal Items
As the video mentioned, it’s important to remove any prescription medicine and personal toiletries from bathroom counters. But removing your personal items doesn’t mean the bathroom has to be empty. Replace your ordinary hand soap with a more luxurious style, much like found in a hotel. This will make your bathroom appear clean and sophisticated so buyers can imagine themselves in a spa-like retreat.

"Selling your first home is an emotional experience. It is personal, it is scary and reaching the decision to sell didn’t come easy for us. However we were lucky enough to have Debby and Jeff. They helped us understand the dynamic of the market and all our options for moving forward. I am happy to say that with their keen insight and strategy our home was on the market for less than 4 days before we received multiple offers. Their guidance didn’t end there. Debby and Jeff with their hands-on approach took us all the way through the closing. I would recommend any of my friends or family to work with The Adler Home Team because I know they will be well taken care of. "
